There’s like maybe 5 things people are doing during this quarantine moment. Baking bread (especially banana bread), going crazy and being a little neurotic, walking the dogs 5 times a day, becoming a plant lady, and making Dalgona coffee.
Dalgona Coffee is having its shining moment. The light and fluffy South Korean drink is taking Tik Tok by storm and the world is freaking loving it.

Not surprising seeing as how I’ve heard it’s amazing and addicting.
However, I can’t tell you if it’s good or not because honestly, I detest coffee. *I know, everyone audibly gasps*.
So I thought there was no way that I could possibly get on this Dalgona Korean Whipped Coffee trend. But then my dear friend, Stine Mari, at Ginger with Spice, hooked me up with her recipe for Dalgona coffee WITH COFFEE FREE OPTIONS!
Isn’t she a God send?!
Anywho, her post inspired me to create my own version of her no-coffee Dalgona coffee. (seriously though, go check out her original post. It’s amazing. Plus, her photos are always the coziest, homiest, most comforting things to look at).
I took her chocolate version one step further and turned it into a hot cocoa version. Then because I had a few Oreos left over from my Vegan Oreo Brownies, I thought, what the heck and made a cookies and cream hot cocoa Dalgona.
Besides being quite the mouthful to say, it was amazing. It’s like a frozen, fluffy hot chocolate made of dreams and cookies. In other words, even if you do like coffee, you’ll also love this.
It’s light and just sweet enough. No overpower sweetness, no bitterness. It’s perfect.

But What the Heck is Dalgona?
Dalgona is a whipped coffee topped over cold milk. It’s made with 3 ingredients (if you don’t count the cold milk), equal parts hot water, coffee, and sugar.
There’s a lot of debate over the history of the drink and where it originally came from. It’s gone by many different names including Chow Yun-Fat coffee, which is the name of the South Korean Actor who is credited with discovering it…and I enjoy that name very much.
However, according to Vice news, this technique for making coffee is popular in so many places around the world that it could really be anywhere. (source).
Things you’re going to need for Dalgona…
Trust me when I say you’re going to want a hand mixer. Yes, you could manually mix this but as my friends are already saying, this stuff is deliciously addictive. Do you really want to mix it by hand every time you’ve got a hankering for it? Of course not. This is the one I have and I love it.

Your Hot Cocoa Powder
You can easily DIY your own hot cocoa mix right here! In my not so humble opinion, it’s way better than store bought and super simple to make!
It is the hot chocolate powder that I used for this recipe!
For the milk
I added some crushed cookies to my almond milk and let it chill in the fridge while I was whipping the chocolate fluff. While you can skip this step, I think it would make your drink kind of sad. The cookie crumbs really soak into the milk giving it almost a milkshake quality. And uhhhh….it’s amazing!
This recipe requires heavy cream.
Traditionally, Dalgona coffee is made simply with hot water, sugar, and coffee. And yes, you can make Dalgona chocolate that way if you want to spend the next 10 years whipping that bish….
I tried it. At minute 20, I quit and changed to some heated heavy cream. It worked like a charm. And honestly, we’re making cookies and CREAM Dalgona, so I see no problem.
How to Pour
When you pour your whipped chocolate over your milk, slowly pour it over a spoon that is flipped upside down. This makes each sip a combination of milk and chocolate.
Cookies n’ Cream Whipped Dalgona Chocolate Recipe
- ¼ cup hot cocoa powder
- ¼ cup sugar granulated
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 3 cups milk
- ¼ cup Crushed Oreos
- Fill 2 glasses with your milk, leaving about 1-2 inches of room at the top. Crush your Oreo Cookies and add ⅛ cup to your milk. Let these chill in the fridge while you whip your other ingredients.
- Heat your heavy cream for about 30 seconds in the microwave. Add it to your hot cocoa mix and sugar. With your hand mixer, mix on high speed for about 10 minutes until soft peaks form.
- To pour take a spoon and turn it upside down over the milk. Pour your whipped cocoa over the spoon slowly to that it evenly mixes as you drink it.
No matter what you’re obsessively doing during quarantine, adding the creation of some Dalgona Chocolate to the list is a must. It’s light and has the perfect amount of sweetness and is a tasty, not too unhealthy afternoon treat.
Now us non-coffee drinkers have no excuse for not jumping on this bandwagon. We only get to live once, so ya know, YOLO. Get on that bandwagon and make this quarantine a little sweeter.
