For a majority of pet owners, pets are like family. If you ask me, pets are like brothers and sisters to me. To be honest, they are always there for me. Whenever I come back from work or on a long trip, the first thing I am waiting for is a hug from Bruno (my dog). He is always there, waiting for me and wagging his tail with love. Yes, I know he is hungry as hell too, but everything he does is cute and fills me with love.
I still remember the day when I adopted him as a pup. It was raining, and when I went to the adoption center, there he was, looking at me with his glistening eyes and innocent face. The moment I laid my eyes upon him, I fell in love with him. Since then, it has been 4 years that Bruno is so close to my heart and is like the best thing that ever happened to me.
For me, the adoption day is his birthday, and I celebrate it with passion, love, zeal, vigor, and happiness. Celebrating his adoption day is of the same value for me as celebrating my parents’ birthdays, my beau’s big day, or my siblings’ birthdays. I bring him different gifts every year, call over my close people and cook different things for him and make him have the time of his life. Yes, the people and gifts might change every year, but one thing remains the same: Adoption day pup cake.
So, if you are looking for an adoption day pup cake recipe, I am at your service, sirs and mams. This cake will make your pup droll over it, and he will love it. Adoption Day Pup Cake Recipe
Ingredients
For the Cake
- 1 cup 100% pumpkin
- ½ cup Apple sauce Plain, Unsweetened
- 1 tbsp Baking soda
- 2 tbsp Honey
- ½ cup Peanut butter without xylitol
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 2 large Eggs
- 6 slices Bacon
- 2 tbsp Bacon grease
- ½ teaspoon Salt
For the Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting
- ½ cup Powdered sugar
- 8 oz. Cream cheese
- ½ cup Peanut butter without xylitol
Instructions
For the Cake
- First of all, send your friend over to a human friend so you can surprise him with a decorated home and a baked cake.
- Now begin by baking the bacon slices at 425 Fahrenheit for 15 minutes in a preheated oven. Make sure you check the oven temperature with an oven thermometer.
- After the bacon slices are baked, set the oven temperature at 350 Fahrenheit.
- You will need two baking pans for this recipe. Line them up with parchment paper and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
- Mix honey, peanut butter, pumpkin, and apple sauce in a large mixing bowl. If you don’t want to feel tired during the birthday celebrations, we suggest using an electric mixer to mix the ingredients in the recipe.
- Once fully combined, throw in the eggs one by one and mix before adding the second egg. Mix after adding the second egg as well.
- Add flour, baking soda, salt, and 3 pieces of chopped bacon. Mix well again.
- Okay, the time has now come to start baking. Grab the prepared pans and divide the batter equally in them. If you are not good with estimations, use kitchen weighing scale.
- Once the mixture is in the pans, transfer them to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. Please be attentive while baking the cakes. We suggest you check after 15 minutes by inserting a toothpick in the pans. If it comes out clean, your job here is done.
- Let the pans sit in the oven for 10 minutes. Remove the pans after 10 minutes and let them cool off completely. You can also keep them in the refrigerator to cool down.
For the Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting
- Preparing the frosting for your pup’s cake is easy. All you have to do is add peanut butter and cream to a mixing bowl and beat it with an electric mixer at full speed. You will notice small peaks forming in the mixing bowl. Keep on beating until you notice it getting smooth, fluffy, and well combined.
- Now add sugar and mix for another 5-10 minutes to make the frosting more fluffy and smooth. You will notice that after adding the sugar, the texture of the frosting will become shinier.
Assembling and Frosting the Cake
- You will need a cake stand for assembling the cake. If you don’t have one with you, you can buy one and up your cake game. A big round plate will work fine as well. Arrange one layer on top of a cake stand or a round plate.
- Spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer evenly and place the second layer on top. Spread the frosting on top of the second cake and around the edges. Smoothen out the edges with a cake spatula.
- Break the remaining pieces of bacon and stick them on the cake (just like candles). You can also chop the bacon pieces and spread them over the top.
- If you don’t plan to serve your cake to human friends, you can also spread crumbled dog food on top of the cake. You can also use your dog’s favorite chocolate, cookies, or nutmeg for garnishing.

Tools and tips for making Adoption Day Pup Cake
Oven Thermometer: Oven thermometer comes in handy for ovens, grills, and pans. It has a temperature range of 58°F-572°F and is easy to use. This thermometer comes with a 2-year warranty and offers very precise measurements.
Baking Pans: Baking pans are very important equipment while baking cakes. This set offers three different pans with 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch baking pans. It is made from steel alloy and will go a long way with you. These bowls are microwave safe, BPA free, and are non-stick for easy release.
Non-stick Cooking Spray: A cooking spray must be easy to use and must be effective. Both of these qualities are present in this spray. I have used it many times, and I am very satisfied with it.
Electric Mixer: If you don’t have the luxury of a standing mixer, you can always get a small handheld electric mixer. This mixer comes with 5-speed settings and 5 attachments. I prefer using handheld mixers compared to standing mixers because they are easy to use, manage and store.
Kitchen Weighing Scale: A weighing scale will help you measure ingredients and divide the cake batter equally. It will come in handy while making other recipes. I never used weighing scales and I always failed to get perfect tastes for my cake. Then I started using this weighing scale, and the taste of my recipes improved drastically.
Cake Stand: To get that perfect cake finish, you will need a cake stand. This cake stand set comes with an 11-inch rotating plate, cake spinner, decorating tools, icing spatulas, and decorating combs.
Parchment Paper: Parchment paper is an important component while making cakes and baking other things. When selecting parchment paper, you must keep a few things in mind. It must be easy to use, affordable, effective, hygienic, and environment-friendly. The good news is; this one has all these qualities.
Mixing Bowls: You need mixing bowls for a lot of recipes. I prefer glass mixing bowls over plastic and steel ones. They are easy to wash, microwave, and dishwasher safe and don’t take up smells from the ingredients being mixed in them.
Frosting Bags and Frosting Tips: You may need a frosting bag and frosting tip for this particular recipe. However, if you feel like decorating this cake with frosting, a frosting bag and tips will come in handy. I have tried many frosting tips, but I found this one best among the rest.
Make sure the peanut butter you are using is xylitol-free. Xylitol is harmful to pups. So, be careful here as you don’t want to end the birthday party in a vet’s clinic.
If you want the cake to be moist, add some oil to the recipe. 1-2 tablespoons will do the needful.
If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.
I suggest you don’t buy pre-cut parchment paper according to the pan’s size. Instead, cut the paper by placing the pan upside down on the paper. Trace it with a pencil and then cut with a paper cutter. If you are a pro at cutting parchment paper, you can skip the tracing part.
Final Words
Pets mean the world to us. Small efforts like celebrating their big days and making a special cake will increase your love in their heart. You will feel that they start to love you more after such efforts. Don’t forget to call your friends and their favorite people as well.
